It’s that time of year again, tax season is creeping up, and you know what they say: the IRS waits for no one. But don’t worry, I’ve got your back. Whether you’re sending out 1099s or filing your business tax return, this guide has all the key 2025 tax deadlines you need to know. Let’s get your money house in order, so you can stay ahead of deadlines and avoid those not-so-cute penalties.
So, grab your planner, set those reminders, and let’s tackle this together.
Guide to 2025 Tax Deadlines
1099 Filing Deadlines:
January 31, 2025:
1099-NEC: If you paid contractors over $600 in 2024, this form is your responsibility. Get it sent out by January 31.
February 17, 2025:
1099-MISC: For payments to nonemployees (think fees, commissions, prizes, etc.), this is your deadline.
Pro Tip: Not sure if you owe someone a 1099? When in doubt, ask your bookkeeper—or better yet, hire one (ahem, me).
March 17, 2025: Business Tax Returns:
This date is the MVP of early tax deadlines:
S Corporations (Form 1120-S):
Due March 17. If you need more time, file Form 7004 for an extension. New deadline: September 15, 2025.
Reminder: Even with an extension, taxes owed must be paid by March 17 to avoid interest and penalties.
Partnerships (Form 1065):
Same deal. March 17 is the deadline, and you can file Form 7004 for an extension, moving your deadline to September 15, 2025.
Pro Tip: Extensions buy you time to file, not to pay. Have your estimated taxes ready to go by March 17.
April 15, 2025: Individual and Corporate Tax Returns:
Let’s break it down by business type:
Corporations (Form 1120):
April 15 is the day. Need more time? File Form 7004 to push the deadline to October 15, 2025.
As always, taxes owed are due by April 15, even if you file for an extension.
Sole Proprietors (Form 1040):
Your individual tax return (with Schedule C for your business income) is due April 15. File Form 4868 for an extension, which gives you until October 15, 2025.
Pay those estimated taxes by April 15 to keep the IRS off your back.
Pro Tip: If you’re juggling both personal and business taxes, make April 15 your non-negotiable deadline. It’s a lot, but trust me, future-you will thank you.
Tax deadlines don’t have to feel like the end of the world. With a little prep, a sprinkle of organization, and the right support (spoiler: that’s me), you’ll breeze through tax season like the financially empowered boss you are.
